Dear Atlantic Ocean...

I miss you. I really really miss you.
Not a day goes by that I don't pine for you.
I had so hoped that we would be able to take a vacation this summer and see you.
Sadly, I don't think it is to be.
In the meantime, I will sigh and dream of you.
Your Long Lost Love,
Me

Micmacs

Amelie and Delicatessen are two of my favorite movies.
His work is so silly and beautiful and wonderful that it is impossible not to get caught up in the magic.
His upcoming movie, Micmacs, looks like another smashing success. I can't wait to see it.
Here is a link to the trailer. The dancing dress at the very end is enough to convince me to see it.

Sweet Potato Fries
It is quite a challenge to get my boys to eat vegetables. So when I saw a bag of frozen sweet potato fries at the grocery store, I decided to try them. I hopped on the computer and found this wonderful recipe from the Neelys. I made several alterations so I thought I'd write my version out here.
1 bag of frozen sweet potato french fries
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of brown sugar
Mix the olive oil, paprika and cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the frozen fries and toss to coat. Place on a foil lined baking sheet. Mix brown sugar and salt together and sprinkle generously over fries. (It's a lot of sugar but it tastes really good). Bake according to package directions (usually about 30 minutes) turning every 10 minutes. The turning is important. Once they are done, broil on high for just a few minutes to help them get a bit crisp. Remove from the oven and let cool for just a few minutes. Then, gobble them up warm because the deliciousness fades as they cool.
Oh my, are these good. And the big bonus? My kids LOVED them.
Hooray!!!

She Flies Through The Air With The Greatest Of Ease

The first job I ever wanted was to be a trapeze artist in the circus.
To be perfectly honest, it wasn't the high-flying acrobatics that interested me.
It was the costumes.
I love these photos. I love the mix of strength, agility and beauty.
These women were strong and brave. No doubt about it. And they did it all with a smile.

If I could afford it, I would buy both of these outfits.
They are from the clothing line Dear Creatures which also has a very lovely website.

The Long Hot Summer

I love The Long Hot Summer. Although it is more than a bit hamy at times, Paul Newman and his real life wife Joanne Woodward are stupendous in it. Her character, Clara Varner, is so smart and sharp and well-dressed that I'd like to be her when I grow up.
If you still need convincing, there is a scene with Paul Newman on a balcony at night in his underwear.
Enouogh said.
