Happy Birthday To Me!

It's my birthday today! I am 31 years old. That means that I am officially in my 30s.

P Is For Pencil Box

I was so touched the other day when Katie mentioned me on her absolutely wonderful blog Pencil Box. If you haven't read it before you really must and you'll be hooked. Not only does she take the most beautiful pictures but her writing is so sweet and straight from the heart. It is one of my favorite blogs and I'm betting it will become one of your favorites too.

Tweeting

Every night I tweet.

I do it religiously.

But I don't do it on Twitter.

You see, every night when I put my youngest to bed he pretends to be a bird. He's the baby bird and I'm the mama bird. We communicate by tweeting, literally.

Goodnight is "tweet tweet".

I love you is "tweet tweet tweet tweet".

It's not a complicated language. Most of the meaning lies in the inflection.

It's one of my favorite parts of the day.

Etsy-versary!

Today calls for a celebration! September first is my Etsy-versary! One year ago today I put the first items in my shop and officially opened for business. I have loved every minute of it since. I want to say a very big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me and my shop this past year. I couldn't have done it without you. I am so excited about starting the second year of my business. I have so many ideas and projects in mind. Stay tuned!

A Cozy Bed and Breakfast

The Magician and the lovely lady with her two curious bunnies have packed their things and moved to a cozy Bed and Breakfast at The Milkweed Mercantile, which is an eco inn. Milkweed Mercantile is located in Missouri and is part of Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, an ecologically sustainable community. It's a fascinating place to read about and I'm sure it would be even better to visit! If you do go for a visit, don't forget to stop by and say hello to these fellows.

I am so pleased to announce that these two stately gentlemen have taken the masked ball all the way to New York. They will be residing and merry-making (in their solemn, dignified way) at F.co, which is located within Hudson Supermarket, until someone takes them home.

This fuzzy rabbit made it to the Etsy front page and he is very pleased with all the attention. Hop quick like a bunny to my shop if you'd like to have one of your own. He's quite a lovely companion.

I'll Be Your Mirror and Stars

This video comes from Beck.com. Such a lovely, lovely song. The meteor shower did not disappoint last night. We saw over a dozen shooting stars and made a wish on every one.

Star Light, Star Bright, First Star I See Tonight

August the 12th is the date of the Perseids meteor shower. Just a little info for anyone who likes to stargaze and make wishes on shooting stars. You can get more details here. The meteors are the most visible tomorrow night all the way until dawn and Wednesday night. I am so desperately hoping for clear skies. So get your wishes ready and find a blanket. I promise you, it is worth staying up late for.

The Captain Sets Sail

The Captain has been quite busy these past few months. He's been traveling all over the country and has visited many blogs and treasuries. Now he's off on his biggest adventure yet. He has set sail for Australia to a store called Ballyhoo Art that will be opening in September. If you are local, feel free to stop by and pay him a visit or, better yet, take him home with you.

Playing With Perspective

I was perusing Black*Eiffel today and came across this brilliant Cold Play video done by Shynola. Watching it made me think about just how many artists I've seen lately that are playing around with perspective. I've already talked at length about Robin Rhode. Jan von Holleben's Dreams

A Brand New Print And Fashion Confessions

Here is the brand new silhouette print that I added to my shop. It's called The Lesson. I just love images that tell a piece of a story but you have to guess at the rest. This silhouette does exactly that. I can't help but wonder what the lady is teaching them and why those little rabbits are so attentive.

In other news, the lovely Tara from Nothing Elegant put out another tag asking readers to list 8 fashion confessions. So here goes...

1. I never wear sunscreen (I stole this one from Tara). I do wear makeup with a little SPF protection. Does that count?
2. Whenever I buy something nice, I have the unfortunate tendency to put it away and save it for a special occasion. There is sits, waiting...and waiting...and waiting...
3. I am allergic to lipstick and lipgloss. My lips have to stay a pale, unadorned pink.
4. I never wear heels. In fact, I don't know how to walk in them. I am currently trying to correct this. I'm starting with wedges and then I'll work my way up to chunky heels.
5. I don't buy expensive shoes. I just can't see my way to spending a bunch of money on something that goes on my feet and comes in contact with the ground.
6. I am a big procrastinator when it comes to getting my hair cut. Luckily, I'm growing it out right now so I don't have to worry.
7. I love the idea of hats but I never wear them. I can't quite figure out how to pull it off.
8. I never paint my fingernails. It's too fussy and it always chips anyway.

There. Glad that's off my chest.

I am a voracious reader. A little known fact about me-I actually get a bit blue if I don't have a good book to read.

Rainy Day Post

It's been a rainy, stormy day here and it was much needed. It was a nice change of pace, after all this sun, to stay inside and be cozy. We whipped up a batch of rice crispy treats and curled up on the couch to watch a movie. In honor of all this precipitation, I decided to post some of my favorite rain-inspired artwork on Etsy. The Raincoat by Fifilapin is my absolute favorite. Love the simplicity and those darling yellow buttons.

Take Shelter by Ashleyg is a soft tumble of color. If only real rain could look like this.

Custom Pet Portraits

Last month I had the pleasure of doing two custom pet portraits for a wonderful customer. They turned out quite lovely, if I do say so myself. So, I thought I'd share them. If anyone out there would like a portrait of their little pet, or knows someone who would, please do not hesitate to stop by my shop.
